Course Description 
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), recommends that first Aiders undertake annual refresher training to ensure their skills are up to date. Employers also have a legal duty to ensure their first aiders are kept up to date.

Who Should Attend

This course is for learners who currently hold a valid & in date Emergency First Aid at Work course or an Emergency FAW Course. 

If your EFAW / FAW course has expired, please do not book on this course.

Minimum Age

The qualification is available to learners who are aged 14 and over. â€‹

Course Delivery

Currently we offer this as a 1 day classroom course only. We are working towards splitting this into e-learning and then a practical element at our HQ.

Course Content

This 1 day course builds on the knowledge you already have. We will cover the following subjects:

​

​1. **Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED):**
   - Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants
   - Safe and effective use of an AED

​

2. **Managing Unconscious Casualties:**
   - Placing a casualty in the recovery position
   - Handling seizures and managing unresponsive casualties

​

3. **Respiratory Issues:**
   - Dealing with choking (for adults, children, and infants)
   - Recognizing and managing asthma attacks and hyperventilation

​​

4. **Wounds and Bleeding:**
   - Controlling severe bleeding
   - Managing minor wounds and bleeding
   - Treating amputations and embedded objects

​

5. **Shock Management:**
   - Recognising and treating different types of shock (hypovolemic, anaphylactic, etc.)
​

​

6. **Head, Neck, and Spine Injuries:**
   - Managing head injuries and concussions
   - Treating suspected spinal injuries
​

​

7. **Medical Conditions:**
    - Recognising and responding to heart attacks and angina
    - Managing strokes
    - Handling diabetic emergencies
    - Dealing with seizures, including epilepsy
    - Responding to anaphylactic shock and severe allergic reactions

​​​

8. **Record Keeping and Reporting:**
    - Maintaining accurate records of incidents
    - Understanding the importance of reporting accidents and incidents in the workplace

​

9. **Practical Scenarios and Simulations:**
    - Engaging in practical exercises to apply learned skills
    - Participating in scenario-based training to simulate real-life situations

​

These topics ensure that participants are well-equipped to handle a broad spectrum of medical emergencies and can provide effective first aid in the workplace.
