Course Description
The Oxygen Therapy course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely administer medical oxygen to a casualty in line with current guidelines.

Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for individuals who regularly deal with Oxygen (This can include care homes or work environments where this is needed).
​
Minimum Age
The qualification is available to learners who are aged 16 and over. ​
​
Course Validity
The qualification is valid for 3 years from date of issue. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.

Maximum number of students per course - 12
Course Delivery
Currently we offer this as a 1 day classroom course only. We are working towards splitting this into e-learning and then a practical element at our HQ.

Course Content
​1. **Know the guidelines for the use of Oxygen Administration:**
- Explain the benefits of Oxygen therapy
- Identify indications for the use of oxygen
- Explain the contraindications prohibiting the use of oxygen
- Explain the dangers of using compressed gas
- Outline the Health & Safety rules for the use, storage and handling of oxygen.

2. **Be able to administer oxygen therapy:**
- Carry out operational checks in preparation for the use of oxygen equipment
- Identify when oxygen is required
- Administer oxygen using the required flow rate for the following delivery devices
* Non-rebreather mask
* Bag, Valve & mask
- Administer oxygen to a patient in line with agreed ways of working.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment Criteria
Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.

Assessment Grading
Grading is either Pass or Referred. If you are referred, you will be offered 1 free place on a separate course which includes a resit.
