Course Description
The First Aid at Work (2 Day) requalification course is designed for people who's current FAW course is close to expiring or has expired within the last 3 months. This course is quite intensive as we need to cover all the topics in a shorter amount of time.

Who Should Attend
If your current FAW course certificate is close to expiry or has expired within the last 3 months, we recommend you attend this course. If your certificate has expired more than 3 months ago, we recommend you attend the full 3 day FAW course.

Minimum Age
The qualification is available to learners who are aged 14 and over. ​
​
Course Validity
The qualification is valid for 3 years from date of issue. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.

We offer flexible ways to complete your first aid training, designed to suit how you like to learn:

Classroom
Complete your full course face-to-face with one of our experienced trainers. Ideal if you prefer hands-on, practical learning in a group setting. -
Blended Learning
Start with 1 day of self-guided e-learning at your own pace. Then join us for 1 day in the classroom to focus on practical skills and assessments. -
Webinar
Join a tutor-led live webinar for 1 day of interactive online learning from home. Followed by 1 day in the classroom to complete your practical training and assessments.
Each option meets the same high standards and provides you with a fully accredited certificate.
Course Content
The content is exactly the same as the 3 day course but condensed into 2 days. The reason for this is you already have the knowledge of the topics and this is just a refresher.

1. **Role and Responsibilities of a First Aider:**
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Legal requirements and regulations (including Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981)

2. **Assessing the Situation:**
- Conducting primary and secondary surveys
- Assessing the scene for safety
​
3. **Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED):**
- Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants
- Safe and effective use of an AED
​
4. **Managing Unconscious Casualties:**
- Placing a casualty in the recovery position
- Handling seizures and managing unresponsive casualties
​
5. **Respiratory Issues:**
- Dealing with choking (for adults, children, and infants)
- Recognising and managing asthma attacks and hyperventilation
​
6. **Wounds and Bleeding:**
- Controlling severe bleeding
- Managing minor wounds and bleeding
- Treating amputations and embedded objects
​
7. **Shock Management:**
- Recognising and treating different types of shock (hypovolemic, anaphylactic, etc.)
​
8. **Injuries to Bones, Muscles, and Joints:**
- Treating fractures, dislocations, sprains, and strains
- Using slings and splints
​
9. **Head, Neck, and Spine Injuries:**
- Managing head injuries and concussions
- Treating suspected spinal injuries
​
10. **Chest and Abdominal Injuries:**
- Identifying and treating chest injuries
- Handling abdominal injuries
​
11. **Burns and Scalds:**
- Treating different types of burns (thermal, chemical, electrical, etc.)
​
12. **Medical Conditions:**
- Recognising and responding to heart attacks and angina
- Managing strokes
- Handling diabetic emergencies
- Dealing with seizures, including epilepsy
- Responding to anaphylactic shock and severe allergic reactions
​
13. **Poisoning:**
- Identifying and managing various types of poisoning (ingestion, inhalation, injection, absorption)
​
14. **Environmental Conditions:**
- Treating heat-related conditions (heat exhaustion, heatstroke)
- Managing cold-related conditions (hypothermia, frostbite)
​
15. **Eye Injuries:**
- Treating eye injuries and managing foreign objects in the eye
​
16. **Electrical Injuries:**
- Handling electrical shock and burns
​
17. **Record Keeping and Reporting:**
- Maintaining accurate records of incidents
- Understanding the importance of reporting accidents and incidents in the workplace
​
18. **Practical Scenarios and Simulations:**
- Engaging in practical exercises to apply learned skills
- Participating in scenario-based training to simulate real-life situations
​
These topics ensure that participants are well-equipped to handle a broad spectrum of medical emergencies and can provide effective first aid in the workplace.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment Criteria
Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.

Assessment Grading
Grading is either Pass or Referred. If you are referred, we will be offered 1 free place on a separate course which includes a resit.
